Beau Fleuve, Niagara, Buffalo
Winter kept us warm… — T.S. Eliot

Beau fleuve, Niagara, Buffalo.
The warmth of winter was our dream.
Les neiges d’antan melt much too slow.

I shovel paths through knee-deep snow,
imagine how things might have been.
Beau fleuve, Niagara, Buffalo.

The snowplows plow. Snowblowers blow.
Black slush confronts the urban scene.
Les neiges d’antan melt much too slow.

I long for blue, bright green, yellow,
but grey hijacks the color scheme.
Beau fleuve, Niagara, Buffalo.

Some shuffle off from Buffalo.
Fat snowball moon directs its beam.
Les neiges d’antan melt much too slow.

I feel my human sadness grow
in winter’s grinding, grey machine.
Beau fleuve, Niagara, Buffalo.
Les neiges d’antan melt much too slow.
