I cut the sun into small pieces
trim its brightness, strip its saturation,
marinate it with some lemon juice
for the laburnums to show up.
Inside the glass: a hot summer’s sky
and some plain soda to heal your acids
soaked in a citric love, sometimes green
then orange, sometimes yellow
melting onto each other
until they all start longing for some ice.
